How Satellite Backhaul Enables a Brighter Tomorrow

Intelsat-hosted webinar details alternatives for quickly and economically closing the connectivity gap

It’s common knowledge that internet connectivity brings socio-economic benefits to individuals and communities around the world.

For most people who live and work in rural areas, however, the only way to connect to the internet is through mobile broadband (3G). Yet today, there are approximately 750 million people around the world who live in areas without access to access to either 3G or 4G services, and approximately 346 million of them are young people between the ages of 15 and 24.

Access to connectivity can be a game-changer for underserved children and young adults. Mobile broadband has a proven impact on GDP growth. Even a modest 10 percent increase in mobile broadband penetration globally yields a 1.5 percent increase in GDP.

The connectivity gap exists mainly because traditional approaches to connecting rural communities are cost prohibitive. Intelsat experts recently hosted a webinar where they detailed efficient, high-performing alternative approaches to closing this connectivity gap, including space-based managed backhaul.
